This serigraphy hammerhead shark shirt is made in Costa Rica with 100% cotton material, natural colored. Being 100% cotton guarantees no microplastics will remain at sea. The ink used to print over the shirts is oil-based. The shirt was made in collaboration with the amazing Costarican artist and entrepreneur Eduardo Rojas of Asequir. The Scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini) belongs to the Sphyrna family and its geographic distribution is associated with coastal warm to temperate and tropical seas, where it migrates over vast distances. This species is endangered of extinction due to overfishing and habitat destruction throughout its entire life cycle, and especially because of the international trade of its fins. Hammerhead fins are used to supply the demand for shark fin soup on the East Asian market, especially in Hong Kong. Equipo Tora Carey is studying the presence of this species in the Gulf of Santa Elena and Salinas Bay, where females arrive in the months of May-June to give birth to their pups.
