Description

These earrings are made of 925 Sterling Silver with their design inspired by a juvenile Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus).

The Moorish Idol receives its name from the Moors of North Africa, who believe this fish to be the source of happiness for those who remain close to it and in some ethnics is considered sacred.

Its beauty led to worldwide interest in the aquarium industry. However, they don’t survive well in tanks, which is why they are wild-caught from the reefs along their Pacific-wide distribution, including the reefs around Punta Descartes.

The Moorish Idol is one of the few entirely vegetarian fish, feeding largely on algae and marine plants and therefore play an important role to help cleaning corrals and reefs from overgrowth. One really cute fact about this fish is that, once they reach adulthood they mate for life!

By purchasing these Moorish idol fish earrings, you can choose to support any of Equipo Tora Carey’s conservation projects, and as we grow, hopefully, the introduction of new projects on other key species, including the protection of the Moorish idol fish environment. Also, if you ever want to visit the site and learn more about the projects, make sure to contact us or Equipo Tora Carey and schedule your visit!
